Hello! I am a current sophomore at George Washington University. I've lived in the D.C. area for multiple years now, and I'd say more than anything else that it is a wonderful hub for opportunity, diversity, and exploration. I have truly enjoyed the unique opportunities--such as being a research assistant, or getting into the nursing field--that have only been possible by my being here. Furthermore, I've loved the unique voices that exist in this community--it makes it easy to make connections, especially when there are so many people moving in and out of D.C. It's been hard to get here--even when working full-time for multiple years--but there is a plethora of support at the university, especially for first-generation students. Even if you don't think you can afford the institution, the university will provide aid to meet your financial needs, especially if you are pell-grant eligible, and people who can guide you on your path. In terms of guidance, the support teams at the university are lead by wonderful people, and the professors really make the university--they care immensely, and have enabled me to begin research relatively early compared to the usual timeline for psychology majors.

Besides this, I'm a fanatic for finding the best places here! Beyond museums, which everyone will tell you to go to, the areas around D.C. provide unique opportunities--especially if you are not going to the university because of its political reputation. Furthermore, they have better thrifting and food, which in my opinion is a plus! As well, I enjoy exploring the cities libraries--for I like to read and the catalog here is ginormous--and the boba shops, for they certainly beat Kansas City boba (like it's hard!) Lastly, if you hate driving, you're in luck--the public transportation is great, whether it be in D.C. proper or the greater DMV (DC, Virginia, and Maryland).
